ENGIPROT supports pilot project for generation control for balancing services at the Raia Wind Farm

ENGIPROT collaborated with FINERGE in the approval process, by REN, for the implementation of the generation control for the provision of Frequency Containment Reserve (FCR) service in an ENERCON E-160 wind turbine, installed at the Raia Wind Farm.

This project is part of the pilot project approved by the Energy Services Regulatory Authority and established by REN to evaluate the technical requirements, namely in terms of monitoring compliance with service provision, and in order to ensure that the proposed rules for the FCR service contracting market, which REN will need to present under paragraph 10 of Article 48 of the ROR, are sufficiently robust and mature.

Within the scope of the project, ENGIPROT provided specialized technical support to all parties involved, from defining the requirements for simulated and real-operation tests to their preparation and execution, in collaboration with REN, FINERGE, and ENERCON teams.

For the simulated tests, ENGIPROT developed a system composed of a Real-Time PLC for network frequency simulation, and historical data-recording software, to allow for the execution of all test scenarios requested by REN. The real-operation tests took place over 4 months, resulting in more than 500 hours of historical data.

ENGIPROT was also responsible for analysing the data obtained, compiling results, and preparing test reports for submission to REN. The positive results obtained by FINERGE in this project will allow, with the implementation of a market for contracting FCR capacity, the addition of this component to the revenue stacking of the Raia Wind Farm.
